His total output is reckoned to exceed 500 books, written or edited.<\/p>\n<p>Asimov wrote the foreword to H. R. Stahel\u2019s <em>Atlantis Illustrated<\/em><sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/s\/\">0560<\/a>]<\/sup> in which he expressed the view that Plato\u2019s Atlantis story was inspired by the catastrophic destruction of Thera and then subsequently embellished it with a location in the far west. Stahel&#8217;s text supports an Atlantic location centred on the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/azores\/\">Azores<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps he expressed greater wisdom when he wrote that <em>\u201cThere is no belief, however foolish, that will not gather its faithful adherents who will defend it to the death.\u201d\u00a0&#8211;<em>The Stars in Their Courses <\/em>(1971)<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Isaac Asimov (1920-1992) was one of the most prolific writers of the 20th century.
