Stewart lectured on geology at the University of Plymouth and now is a senior lecturer in Geography and Earth Sciences at Brunel University.<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0In 2007 a newly identified species of ant, <em>Cerapachys iainstewarti,<\/em> was named after him, when it was discovered during the filming of a TV programme presented by him.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/hzn_iainstewart.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-28249\" src=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/hzn_iainstewart-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"hzn_iainstewart\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/hzn_iainstewart-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/hzn_iainstewart-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/hzn_iainstewart.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>However, he gave up his acting career to study geology and geography and eventually received a PhD. No doubt assisted by his acting experience Dr\u00a0Stewart has gone on to present a number of science programmes on television.\u00a0The first of which was <em>Helike: <\/em><em>The <\/em><em>Real <\/em><em>Atlantis<\/em><em> (2002),<\/em> in which he proposed that the submergence of <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/helike-amended\/\">Helike<\/a> was the inspiration for elements of Plato\u2019s Atlantis story<sup>(<\/sup><sup>a<\/sup><sup>)<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>In 2014, he updated the article providing interesting information regarding the effects of earthquakes in Greek history, concluding with a reiteration of his support for Helike as an important influence on the development of Plato\u2019s story of Atlantis.\u00a0He returned to the subject again in June 2015<sup>(b)<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>Stewart\u00a0was a member of the steering committee of the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/atlantis-conference-2008\/\">2008 Atlantis Conference <\/a>held in Athens.<\/p>\n<p><sup>(<\/sup><sup>a<\/sup><sup>) <\/sup>(<em>BBC<\/em> Feb.17, 2011) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/history\/ancient\/greeks\/atlantis_01.shtml\">https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/history\/ancient\/greeks\/atlantis_01.shtml<\/a><\/p>\n<p><sup>(b) <\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/archive-2571\/\">http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20201024090013\/https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/archive-2571\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Iain Stewart (1964- )\u00a0is a Scottish geologist and former child actor.
