The focus of this book is on the aftermath of the last four global catastrophes that engulfed the earth. Joseph attributes these cataclysms to periodic close encounters with a comet and/or its attendant debris over a two thousand year period.

According to Joseph, the first of these occurred around 3100 BC severely damaging Atlantis, located in the Atlantic, resulting in the migration of many of its inhabitants, to Egypt, Mesopotamia and some to America. He claims that the latter led to the discovery of the vast copper mines around Lake Michigan and was followed by the exportation of millions of tons of the metal to be profitably sold to a copper hungry Bronze Age Mediterranean. Subsequent celestial encounters ,over succeeding centuries, caused further damage eventually submerging it completely.

This book is high on speculation but short on tangible evidence. He makes novel claims, such as declaring the Trojan War to have been part of the Eastern Mediterranean conflict with the Sea Peoples and suggesting that Noah was an Atlantean. His attempt to shoehorn so many key historical events into a two thousand year period is not quite convincing. In addition, the lack of an index is somewhat irritating for anyone hoping to make full use of the book, however flawed.

The atlantisforschung.de website has reviewed the German edition of Joseph’s book(a) and for the benefit of English readers, I have added an English translation of the review(b).

(a) Buchbesprechung: Frank Joseph: Die Überlebenden von Atlantis – Atlantisforschung.de (German)

(b) http://web.archive.org/web/20220926025258/https://atlantipedia.ie/samples/archive-6977/

Survivors of Atlantis: Their Impact on World Culture by Frank Joseph is the sequel to his The Destruction of Atlantis.
