He was sent to Ireland where he eventually settled. He was also an antiquarian who took great interest in the history, <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Vallancey.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-40578\" src=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Vallancey.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"223\" height=\"226\" \/><\/a>language and mythology of his adopted country. He published a number of books on the subject which have been heavily criticised for both their content and style. He voiced the opinion that the Phoenician and Irish languages were related<sup>(a)<\/sup><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&gt;<\/span><\/strong>and that <em>&#8220;t<\/em><em>he <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/phoenicians\/\">Phoenicians<\/a> had colonised Ireland in archaic prehistory: When their explorers had searched for <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/thule\/\">Thule<\/a>, Vallancey affirmed, they had come to Ireland; the word\u00a0<\/em><em>Thule<\/em><em>\u00a0was identical to the Irish word\u00a0<\/em><em>thua<\/em><em>, which meant simply<\/em> \u2018north\u2019!&#8221;<sup>(b)<\/sup><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&lt;\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Although Valancey made little reference to Atlantis, <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/mcculloh-dr-james-haines-mcculloh-n\/\">James McCulloh<\/a> noted <sup>[<\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/m\/\"><sup>1588<\/sup><\/a><sup>]<\/sup> that Vallancey was disposed to support <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/whitehurst-john\/\">John Whitehurst\u2019s <\/a>association of the Giant&#8217;s Causeway (See: <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/beaumont-william-comyns\/\">W.C.
