BC.)<\/strong> is quoted by <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/aelian\/\">Aelian<\/a> (i) where he seems to describe a <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/continent\/\">continent<\/a> on the far side of the Atlantic in terms similar to Plato\u2019s account of Atlantis. This excerpt is reputed to be from a play of Thespis, a contemporary of <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/solon\/\">Solon<\/a>, who is believed to have parodied Solon\u2019s Atlantis poem, which, if true, adds credence to the view that Atlantis was not just an invention of Plato\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>However, <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/zhirov-nicolai-feodosyevich\/\">N. Zhirov<\/a><sup>[<\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/w-z\/\"><sup>458<\/sup><\/a><sup>]<\/sup> urges caution as \u2018Theopompus was considered a writer of fables even in antiquity\u2019.\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">*<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/kershaw-stephen-p-n\/\">Stephen P. Kershaw <\/a>notes that Aelian <em>&#8220;exposes how Theopompus quite flagrantly ripped off the Timaeus and the Critias.&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/k-l\/\">1585<\/a>.109]<\/sup><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">*<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/donnelly-ignatius-loyola\/\">Ignatius Donnelly<\/a> points out<sup>[<\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/d\/\"><sup>021<\/sup><\/a><sup>]<\/sup> that Theopompus referred to Atlanteans as <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/meropes\/\">Meropes<\/a>.
