{"id":4256,"date":"2010-06-13T09:11:22","date_gmt":"2010-06-13T09:11:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/zamarro-paulino\/"},"modified":"2021-03-06T09:55:05","modified_gmt":"2021-03-06T09:55:05","slug":"zamarro-paulino","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/zamarro-paulino\/","title":{"rendered":"Zamarro, Paulino"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Paulino<\/strong> <strong>Z<\/strong><strong>amarro<\/strong><strong>, <\/strong>born in 1947, in Cantalejo, Segovia, Spain and is now living <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/Paulino-zamarro.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-28292 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/Paulino-zamarro-220x300.jpg\" alt=\"Paulino zamarro\" width=\"220\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/Paulino-zamarro-220x300.jpg 220w, https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/Paulino-zamarro.jpg 347w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 220px) 100vw, 220px\" \/><\/a>in Madrid. He is an industrial engineer specialising in chemistry and has worked for over twenty years on environmental studies. Among his ecological publications, in Spanish, is a\u00a0monograph on a\u00a0wetland near his birthplace &#8211; <em>T<\/em><em>he<\/em><em> L<\/em><em>agoons<\/em> <em>of<\/em><em> C<\/em><em>atalejo<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>He is also the author of\u00a0<em> D<\/em><em>el <\/em><em>E<\/em><em>strecho de <\/em><em>G<\/em><em>ibraltar a la <\/em><em>A<\/em><em>tlantida (From the Strait of Gibraltar to Atlantis)<\/em><sup>[0024<\/sup><sup>]<\/sup>, in which he puts forward a number of radical ideas. \u00a0He first proposes that an\u00a0isthmus at the Strait of Gibraltar had been created as a result of silting. He then claims that at the end of the last Ice Age this landbridge was breached leading to the destruction of Atlantis. Both <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/strato-of-lampsacus\/\">Strato<\/a> and Seneca refer to the breaking of the Gibraltar dam. Zamarro dates the breach to circa 5500 BC.<\/p>\n<p>He places Atlantis in the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/cyclades\/\">Cyclades<\/a> in the Eastern Mediterranean, which had originally been a single landmass and identifies a tiny island called Pori north of the island of Antikythera as the site of the Pillars of Heracles. Fifteen years later <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/djonis-christos-a-n\/\">Christos A. Djonis<\/a> proposed a location in the same region without giving any credit to Zamarro. He highlighted the multiplicity of locations that have been designated as the site of the &#8216;Pillars&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/ZamarroMap.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-19448 alignleft\" style=\"border: 4px solid black;\" title=\"ZamarroMap\" src=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/ZamarroMap-300x228.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"228\" srcset=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/ZamarroMap-300x228.jpg 300w, https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/ZamarroMap.jpg 708w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>To-date the book\u00a0has only been published in Spanish, although Zamarro is anxious to have it published in English. His ideas are summarised on a website<sup>(<\/sup><sup>a<\/sup><sup>)<\/sup> promoting the book,\u00a0which can be translated by\u00a0your browser.<\/p>\n<p>Zamarro has recently added a further site<sup>(b)<\/sup> where the first 100 pages of his book\u00a0(in Spanish) can be read online.
