He is probably best known as the co-author with Chris Ogilvie-Herald of <em>Giza: The Truth <\/em><sup>[<\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/k-l\/\"><sup>1690<\/sup><\/a><sup>]<\/sup>, which offers a sober forensic review of all the many and widely varied theories relating to the ancient structures on the Giza Plateau.<b> <\/b>In it, Lawton was highly critical of <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/bauval-robert\/\">Robert Bauval<\/a>&#8216;s Orion Correlation Theory (OCT) both in the book (chapter 9)(d) and in open correspondence between them.<\/p>\n<p>However, Lawton was at the receiving end of criticism from the late <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/west-john-anthony\/\">John Anthony West<\/a> in 2000, when West published an article in <em>Atlantis Rising<\/em> magazine that ended with a scornful <em>&#8220;The point is that the facile assurances given by Ogilvie-Herald\/Lawton endorsing the orthodox view are illegitimate, their exclusion of contrary, genuinely informed opinion is typical of their selective bogus scholarship, and their long-winded acoustic levitation hypothesis is pure speculation and self-contradictory besides. We still don&#8217;t know how the pyramids were built\/ Period. Full stop.&#8221;<\/em><sup>(e)<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Two years later Ogilvie-Herald co-authored <em>Tutankhamun <\/em><sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/c\/\">1898<\/a>]<\/sup> with <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/collins-andrew\/\">Andrew Collins<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Lawton has also been highly critical of the claims of the late <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/sitchin-zecharia\/\">Zechariah Sitchin<\/a><sup>(b) <\/sup>and his book <em>Mesopotamia: The Truth <\/em><sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/k-l\/\">1751<\/a>]<\/sup><em>,<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em>he returns to the subject.<\/p>\n<p>Lawton&#8217;s second book, <em>Genesis Unveiled<\/em> <sup>[<\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/k-l\/\"><sup>1691<\/sup><\/a><sup>]<\/sup>,\u00a0has been described as containing <em>&#8220;remarkable new insights into the spirituality of the pre-flood human race&#8221;.<\/em> Chapter 13 takes a somewhat generous view of <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/blavatsky-madame-helena-petrovna\/\">Blavatsky<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/theosophy\/\">Theosophy<\/a><sup>(c)<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>He subsequently made changes<sup>(a)<\/sup> to the content and, in my opinion, opportunistically re-titled it as <em>Atlantis: The Truth!<\/em> In it\u00a0Lawton has focused on prediluvian races, citing, with reservations, the work of <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/oppenheimer-stephen\/\">Stephen Oppenheimer<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/arysio-nunes-dos-santos\/\">Arysio dos Santos<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/joseph-frank\/\">Frank Joseph<\/a>, which when added to Lawton&#8217;s research, he concludes that <em>&#8220;it&#8217;s nevertheless interesting that all four of us have independently arrived at the same conclusion about the broad whereabouts of any forgotten race.&#8221; <\/em>He argues that the location of such a race was in the general region of <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/sundaland\/\">Sunda<\/a> and Sahul Shelves.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><sup>(a)<\/sup> <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20230604231310\/http:\/www.ianlawton.com\/attchgs.html\">Atlantis: The Truth | Ian Lawton (archive.org)<\/a><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u00a0*<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><sup>(b)<\/sup> <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20231127130150\/http:\/www.ianlawton.com\/mttindex.html\">Mesopotamia: The Truth | Ian Lawton (archive.org)<\/a><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u00a0*<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><sup>(c)<\/sup> <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20230605001830\/http:\/www.ianlawton.com\/att4.html\">Atlantis: The Truth | Ian Lawton (archive.org)<\/a><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u00a0*<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><sup>(d)\u00a0<\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20210805012057\/http:\/www.ianlawton.com\/oc8.html\">Giza the Truth | Ian Lawton | Chris Ogilvie-Herald (archive.org)<\/a><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u00a0*<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><sup>(e)<\/sup> Atlantis Rising magazine #23\u00a0 http:\/\/www.pdfarchive.info\/index.php?pages\/At<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ian Lawton (1959- ) is an English researcher focused on ancient history and spiritual philosophy.
