{"id":56243,"date":"2022-09-14T06:54:47","date_gmt":"2022-09-14T05:54:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/?p=56243"},"modified":"2025-01-16T09:24:56","modified_gmt":"2025-01-16T09:24:56","slug":"yoruba-people","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/yoruba-people\/","title":{"rendered":"Yoruba People"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The<\/strong><strong> Y<\/strong><strong>oruba<\/strong> people of West Africa were first brought to the attention of Atlantis seekers in the early years of the 20th century by <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/frobenius-leo\/\">Leo Frobenius<\/a> who placed Atlantis in the Yoruba region of <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/nigeria\/\">Nigeria<\/a>. Frobenius believed that the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/etruscans\/\">Etruscans<\/a> had an Atlantean culture and were responsible for the establishment of Benin around 1300 BC and it was a city in this region that had been described by Plato. In 1910 he published<em>, <\/em>in German, <em>Atop the Rubble of Classical Atlantis <\/em>which filled three large volumes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Apart from some initial media attention Frobenius&#8217; claims received little attention until a century later when an exotic suggestion regarding the Etruscans came from <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/seguin-xavier\/\">Xavier S\u00e9guin<\/a>, who claimed that they share a common ancestry with the Yoruba of West Africa, as both originated in Atlantis<sup>(c)<\/sup>, a concept clearly &#8216;borrowed&#8217; from Frobenius! This attempted revival received little attention.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Related, but unconnected with Atlantis studies are the claims of <em>&#8220;Dierk <\/em><em>Lange<\/em><sup>(d)<\/sup><em>, Prof. Dr Emeritus, of Bayreuth University in Germany, who has performed extensive research concerning many West African groups and their origins in the Near East.
