He was devoutly anticlerical and saw Christianity as a poor imitation of the more ancient oriental religions.\u00a0He was the author of <em>The Bible in India<\/em>\u00a0in which he traced the Hindu origins of Hebrew and Christian revelation.<\/p>\n<p>He was <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/Jacolliot.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-27801\" src=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/Jacolliot-246x300.jpg\" alt=\"Jacolliot\" width=\"246\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/Jacolliot-246x300.jpg 246w, https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/Jacolliot.jpg 328w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 246px) 100vw, 246px\" \/><\/a>obsessed with Indian occultism and collected Sanskrit myths and interpreted some of them as telling of a sunken continent, <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/rutas\/\">Rutas<\/a>, in the Indian Ocean. However, he decided to move this lost land to the Pacific and as a consequence, Jacolliot was quoted as an \u2018authority\u2019 by <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/blavatsky-madame-helena-petrovna\/\">Blavatsky <\/a>when she sought support for her own invention \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/lemuria\/\">Lemuria<\/a>. Later this was embellished even further by <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/scott-elliott-william\/\">William Scott Elliott<\/a>.
