{"id":852,"date":"2010-03-19T08:47:18","date_gmt":"2010-03-19T08:47:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/?p=852"},"modified":"2021-02-13T09:44:08","modified_gmt":"2021-02-13T09:44:08","slug":"ed-ziomek","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/ed-ziomek\/","title":{"rendered":"Ziomek, Ed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Ed<\/strong> <strong>Z<\/strong><strong>iomek <\/strong>is an American investigator who has endeavoured to link place-names in <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/mexico\/\">Mexico<\/a> with Atlantis<sup>(<\/sup><sup>a<\/sup><sup>)<\/sup>.\u00a0 These consist mainly of names with an \u2018atl\u2019 prefix, a fact which has been commented on by many earlier writers without being totally convincing that they are really linked in any way with Atlantis.<b> <\/b>Furthermore, Ziomek places Homer\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/ogygia\/\">Ogygia<\/a> in the Pacific<sup>(b)<\/sup>!<\/p>\n<p>Ziomek, in pursuance of his Atlantis in Mexico theory, specifies the Valley of Mexico as the location of Atlantis, where <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/red-white-and-black\/\">red, white and black<\/a> rocks are to be found. He combines local legends and often forced interpretations of place-names to reinforce his thesis. He identifies Tula, which is north of Mexico City (Tenochtitl\u00e1n), with the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/thule\/\">Thule<\/a> of Greek mythology. He also offers four candidate locations for the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/pillars-of-herakles-revised\/\">Pillars of Heracles<\/a> in Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>To be honest, I do not find the idea of Atlantis in Mexico in anyway convincing. Ziomek makes no attempt to\u00a0match many of the characteristics of Atlantis noted by Plato. The list is too long to discuss here, but just\u00a0two examples will suffice; what evidence is there that Mexico had any cultural influence\u00a0on the Mediterranean region &#8220;as far as Tyrrhenia and Libya&#8221; and how or why\u00a0would they launch an attack on Athens or Egypt from Mexico?<\/p>\n<p>He is also researching similarities between Aztec, Egyptian and Japanese names.
