Richard Hakluyt (1552-1616) was an English writer of Welsh extraction, who had a fascination with the exploration and settlement of the New World. He was convinced that Plato’s description of Atlantis was a clear reference to the West Indies, in his The Principal Navigations, Voiages, Traffiques and Discoueries of the English Nation (1600).
