Richard Hakluyt (1552-1616) was an English cleric and a writer of Welsh extraction, who had a fascination with the exploration and settlement of the New World. He RichardHakluytwas convinced that Plato’s description of Atlantis was a clear reference to the West Indies, a view he expressed in his book The Principal Navigations, Voiages, Traffiques and Discoueries of the English Nation (1600).
