Richard Hakluyt (1552-1616) was an English cleric and a writer of Welsh extraction, who had a fascination with the exploration and settlement of the New World. He 
was convinced that Plato’s description of Atlantis was a clear reference to the West Indies, a view he expressed in his 1600, 12-volume offering The Principal Navigations, Voiages, Traffiques and Discoueries of the English Nation [1654.7.199].
