Roatan Island
Roatan Island is situated off the coast of Honduras and is 60 km long and at its widest point is 8 km. The island has a colourful history which includes pirate treasure, a sunken city and an unidentified ancient culture. F.A. Mitchell-Hedges famed as the alleged discoverer of the most perfect crystal skull, in nearby Belize, lived on Roatan for seven years. His archaeological discoveries there led him to conclude that the island was a remnant of Atlantis and that it had been home to survivors of its destruction.
