Slavery

Slavery was part of Plato’s Ideal State, so it is strange that if Plato used the story of Atlantis as an example of his ideal state he did not include slavery in his very detailed description of Atlantis. In fact he described something quite different, namely a feudal system where those that were given plots of land on the Plain of Atlantis received them in return for military service when required. This conflict with his own ideas would appear to support the view that the Atlantis story came from somewhere other than Plato’s imagination.
