Bleiler, Everett Franklin

Everett Franklin Bleiler (1920-2010) was a renowned expert on 19th century detective fiction and science fiction, editing a number of anthologies and writing biographies of many authors. He also wrote an interesting introduction to a 1976 edition (Dover, New York) of Ignatius Donnelly’s groundbreaking book on Atlantis.

In his Science-fiction: The Early Years[1429]  he claimed that the Dover edition of Donnelly’s book “is the only edition worth reading” and that all other modern versions were “without value”! He failed, however, to mention that he worked at Dover Publications for over twenty years, and as executive vice-president for the final ten years.
