Corneille DePauw (1739-1799) was a Dutch philosopher, geographer and diplomat. Although he never visited America he was considered a leading expert on that continent. In his 1768 book, Recherches philosophiques sur les Américains^(a), he identified Central America as the home of Atlantis.
