Godwin, G.N.
George Nelson Godwin (1846-1907) was a British Army chaplain who wrote a guide to Malta [1592]+ a couple of decades before the end of the 19th century. In it, he noted that “These islands are supposed with good reason to have formed part of a much larger tract of land now submerged, and which was either a large island or islands or else formed part of Europe or Africa, if not of both.”
Godwin refers to the earlier guide written by Borzesi and appeared to be sympathetic to the idea of a Maltese Athalantis (sic) given the probable greater size of Malta in times past.
