Beckman2Johann Christoph Becmann (also Bekmann) (1641-1717) was a German university professor as well as a renowned librarian and historian, who taught Greek, history, politics and theology at the Brandenburg University in Frankfurt.

In his 1680 book, Historia Orbis Terrarum[1428]+,  he expressed the view that Atlantis had been an island in the Atlantic (CapV.p110).
