An A-Z Guide to the Search for Plato's Atlantis

Carteia was a Phoenician port situated in South-West Spain just west of the Rock of Gibraltar. Today there is little to be seen as the harbour silted up and was abandoned. It has been suggested that it may have derived its name from the Phoenician god Melqart. Some researchers such as Karl Jürgen Hepke have linked it with Tartessos/Atlantis.
