Autochthon

Autochthon is a Greek word meaning ‘of the earth’ and has come to mean aboriginal inhabitant. Autochthon was the name of the younger of the third pair of twins fathered by Poseidon, as recorded by Plato. Autochthon has been linked(a) with the Phoenician pantheon. C.&S.Schoppe refer to Autochthon as being in some way connected with the Danube, without any clear explanation(b).
